How Does Laser Treatment Work Best To Remove Scars?

Scars may come up after an injury or tearing up of your skin. The severity of scars varies, some scars from pimples and acne are minimal, while some from serious injuries may be deep inside the skin layer. Big and deep scars are often only curable by the latest technology of laser treatment. Let’s go through how these laser therapies work to remove scars.

A damaged skin part takes up all skin resources to repair the damage. This shows the surface of the scar as rough and not smooth as the surrounding skin. The body supplies damaged skin, which makes up a scar, and collagen (protein) to repair it. That’s where protein helps in rejuvenating skin cells.

Laser treatments make use of focused beams of light to treat damaged areas of the body. They help also the appearance of scars. In this treatment, your doctor may repeatedly move a laser wand on your skin to remove damaged skin cells and diminish scars. These can be:

  • injury scars
  • acne scars
  • burn marks
  • dark spots, hyperpigmentation, age spots

How do Lasers work on Scars?

Laser scar treatments don’t make a scar disappear. Instead, they’re designed to make a scar appear less noticeable.

As the body starts its repairing process after a skin injury. A scab forms over the injury to protect it from germs, it may then gradually falls off. However, it depends on the depth of the injury, but a scar often remains after a scab falls off. Moreover, some deep acne marks, big puss pimples and hyperpigmentation on the skin also leave scars.

These scars can fade or get lighter with time. When a scar stays for long or permanent, laser treatments help to remove the outer layer of the damaged skin’s surface. This will basically smooth the skin to improve tone and appearance and make the scar less prominent.

Lasers can also target blood vessels in the scar tissue and reduce redness. Moreover, they can penetrate in skin’s surface to stimulate the production of new skin cells.

To sum up, laser treatments try to remove the damaged scar cells that make our skin look uneven, and stimulate the growth of new skin cells, that may take place of the damaged cells to reduce breakouts and give our skin a smooth and even look.

Some common types of laser treatments are Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Resurfacing and Erbium Laser.
