Keto Turtle-shaped Breakfast Sausages

A recipe inspired by Maria Emmerich https://mariamindbodyhealth.com/keto-turtles/, these kids-friendly keto-turtles are made from sausage pieces cut and placed parallel about an inch apart. You may roll Italian sausages in a ball shape between the two and make a shell shape. Cut a sausage link in half to make two heads stuck in the ground sausage shell. Then place black pepper or cloves to make the turtles eyes. You may add other creative decorations to the turtle shaped sausages like bacon strips. This low-carb recipe is fun to make and eat.

Equipment

  • Oven Preheated

Ingredients

  • 10 pieces Cooked Sausage
  • 1 pound Ground Mild Sausage 450 grams
  • 10 pieces Cloves whole

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 F. Line a half baking sheet with parchment paper. Place two pieces of sausage links parallel to each other and about an inch apart. These will create legs of the turtle. Repeat the same process to make 3 more turtles.
  • Use the ground Italian sausage and divide it into four parts. Massage each section to bind the meat together. Roll each section into a ball and place it on top of one of the four sausage link bases. Press it down well so the shell forms around the front and back legs. This ensures that it all holds together. Cut the remaining two sausage links in half and press each headpiece into the shell. Form the ground sausage around the heads to hold them in place.
  • Use two whole pieces of round black pepper or clove for each eye of the turtle. Bake these tiny turtles for 25-30 minutes or until they are brown and tender enough.
