Hormonal Acne comes up in adults between the ages of 20 to 50. it brings up bumps on your face, shoulders, back, and on chest.

Hormonal acne happens when breakouts on the skin come up in adulthood, these range from blackheads and whiteheads to painful cysts. It is linked to the excess production of sebum (an oily substance in skin glands), which may clog pores, and leads to pimples.Acne comes up in various forms, for example:

Pimples

Small circular growths that come up on your skin’s surface. These may be inflamed or discolored. Pimples come up because of irritants and bacteria on the skin. They are a result of clogged pores and inflammation of sebaceous glands.

Blackheads

A type of acne vulgaris, or open bumps on the skin that are filled with excess oil and dead skin. They seem like dirt clogged in the bump. However, these are irregular light reflections of a clogged follicle that causes these dark spots.

Blackheads are a result of sebaceous glands that are connected to hair follicles and spread all over the body. Comedones are a result of inflamed sebaceous glands or hair follicles.

Whiteheads

Another type of acne vulgaris. These are oil and dead skin that may come up from hair follicles or sebaceous oil glands. They form a closed bump, also called comedo on your skin, more specifically closed comedones. While blackheads are open comedones. It has the same causes as blackheads.

Cystic Acne

A type of inflammatory acne that causes painful, pus-filled pimples that come from deep under the skin. This acne comes up when oil and dead skin cells clog pores inside the skin. Cystic acne comes up as a result of bacteria trapped in the skin’s pores. It comes as a result of the skin’s reaction, which makes it swell, and red as an acne cyst. This comes up in the middle layer, the dermis of the skin.

What causes hormonal acne?

Hormonal acne comes up because of hormonal changes which bring up a high amount of oil production by the skin. The oil can interact with bacteria in your skin pores or hair follicles and comes out as acne.

Pores get clogged because of dead skin cells, excess sebum, and bacteria.

Other causes of hormonal acne are stress, lack of sleep, and the use of the wrong skin care products. We can have control over these and ensure proper and correct skin care routines to avoid hormonal acne.

Clogged pores and inflammation are the main causes of hormonal acne. This occurs because of increased sebum and oil production, the increased presence of bacteria on the skin, and a raise in the hormone androgen in the blood. Moreover, abnormal keratin formation also results in clogged pores and inflammation.
